About Me

Sarah Xu is a classically trained pianist born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. Born into a musical family, she is the third generation of musicians in the family. She started her musical journey at the age of 5, and has been playing over 20 years. A dedicated pianist, Sarah placed first in many festivals including the British Columbia Conservatory festival, Burnaby Clef festival, and Student Guild festival. As a young musician, being influenced by many great pianists, Sarah dreamed on growing her passion and musical knowledge. She went on to pursue her Bachelors of Music from the University of Victoria under professor Bruce Vogt. Sarah obtained her Master’s of Music in Piano Pedagogy and Performance from the University of Toronto under Dr. Midori Koga. She also holds a Licenciates Performance diploma from the British Columbia Conservatory of Music under Dr. Rudy Rozanski. Sarah studied at the summer music program Orford Musique Academy (2023) studying under David Jalbert and Dr. Sarah Davis Buechner.

Sarah has years of private teaching of all ages. She finds much joy in helping students unlock their hidden potential. As a teacher, she understands the importance of meeting students where they are at, helping them internalize and understand what is beyond the notes on the page.

When not practicing, performing, and teaching. She enjoys going on walks, spending time with family and friends, watching movies, and immersing herself in her hobbies.
